| OPTIMIZATION IN DEPTH |
 |
 |
|
There are two methodologies to search engine
optimization.
The first methodology is to properly theme a page around a
small, targeted set of keyword phrases. The page should resemble a well-written paper with succinct
topic sentences (keyword phrases) throughout the entire page, backed up by facts
(descriptive text and links).
Furthermore, the “invisible” text such as tags, headers, comments, etc.
should be optimized and balanced for the top search engines. This is the methodology which I follow.
The second methodology is used mainly by sites targeting
extremely competitive keywords and keyword phrases – especially pornographic terms. The extreme strategy is to create “cloaked”
pages targeted towards a specific keyword and a specific search engine. When a search engine visits one of these
“cloaked” pages, the page will try to determine which search engine it is
(through the IP address) and then spit out the proper code for that particular
search engine. If successful, the
search engine will then index the page, but when a user gets to the page,
he/she is just redirected to the main site.
“Cloaked” pages are gaining more and more popularity, but search engines
are cracking down on their use.
Many search engines will kick a site (all pages) out of its directory if it
discovers cloaking.
BriSmi Consulting does not subscribe to the second methodology for a number of reasons. However, some companies are searching
for this type of search engine optimization. Therefore, please contact us if you would like a referral to a leading cloaking company.
