| KEYWORD RESEARCH |
 |
 |
|
Keyword Research is the most important step in Search Engine Optimization. Without intense keyword research, a website will neither gain traffic nor targeted customers.
When choosing keywords for search engines, the more descriptive, the better -
both in terms of the search engine optimization results and the "conversion rate" for the website. Because of this, it is imperative to consider the use of keyword phrases.
For example, when optimizing for a site which sells Dental Insurance Plans, keywords / keyword phrases like 'Insurance' or 'Insurance Plans" are not significant because these keywords / keyword phrases
will be extremely difficult to optimize for - think of all the insurance companies
on the web. At the same time, the keywords / keyword phrases will not be optimal for the Dental
Insurance Plan company either because the company will attract people
searching for 'free health insurance quotes,' 'insurance books,' 'long-term care
insurance,' etc. - not the core competency of the company.
Keyword phrases like "Dental
Insurance,' 'Dental Insurance Quote,' 'Dental Insurance Coverage,' 'New York Dental Insurance' on the other hand, are potentially great keyword phrases.
In the end this laser focus on specific keywords / keyword phrases might end up driving less traffic to the site, but
the traffic will be much more targeted, resulting in higher conversion rates.
There are many resources for Keyword Research on the web (both free and paid), make sure to visit the
Resource section to find out more. When researching keywords, it is important not only to look at the content on your website, but
also the keyword phrases on the sites of competition and the meta-tags of top search results.
